It seems that electronic technology is now changing social relations, and in the near future will alter the psychological abilities of individuals. Because of the symbolic form in which information is encoded, electronic media determine cognitive biases of people. This process is an ongoing, and only to some extent can we predict how it will end.
Some authors believe that the Internet - which is the culmination of the development of digital technology - facilitates these relationships, enhances their form and opens up new possibilities for human interaction. Other internet researchers state that, in fact, the Internet isolates people from each other, mainly because it offers them a variety of useless or even harmful interpersonal surrogate contacts.
There is another effect of the immersion of humans on the Internet that is quite rarely noticed. I think the Internet is changing the human identity and individual self-consciousness in a radical way.
So, I think that the most difficult philosophical question that can and should be put forward on the threshold of the twenty-first century is the question of the limits of human self-modification and self-creation.

Wydaje się, że technologia informatyczna zmienia obecnie relacje społeczne i najprawdopodobniej zmienia tez zdolności psychologiczne poszczególnych osób. Media elektroniczne wpływają na procesy poznawcze przez fakt wprowadzenia nowych form symbolicznych, w których kodowane i przekazywane są informacje. Proces ten już trwa od pewnego czasu i trudno obecnie przewidzieć dokładnie w jakim pójdzie kierunku. 
Niektórzy badacze są zdania, że Internet ułatwia tworzenie relacji społecznych, rozwija nowe ich formy, wprowadza nowe możliwości. Inni z kolei twierdzą, że Internet izoluje nas od siebie, ponieważ oferuje współczesnemu człowiekowi bezużyteczne lub nieadekwatne surogaty relacji interpersonalnych. 
Ale istnieje jeszcze inny rodzaj wpływu Internetu, rzadko uwzględniamy w literaturze. Sądzę, że Internet zmienia w sposób radykalny ludzką tożsamość i samoświadomość. Myślę, iż jedno z najtrudniejszych i najważniejszych filozoficznie pytań jakie możemy postawić na początku XXI w. dotyczy granic ludzkiej samokreacji i modyfikacji.
